What is Spyware?
Spyware is any software that gathers information through a person’s internet connection without his or her knowledge. It is generally used for advertising purposes. Spyware is generally hidden as a component of freeware or shareware programs that are available to be downloaded from the Internet.
Once the spyware has been installed, it gathers information about the user’s activity on the internet and transmits it to someone else. This kind of software also collects information about email addresses, passwords and credit card numbers.
What are Adware and Malware?
Adware is a form of Spyware that secretly installs advertising software on the user’s computer. These generate on-screen adverts, which are often showed as pop-ups, and that can be really irritating because they tend to appear every few seconds.
Some forms of adware hijack links in webpages so, instead of taking the user to the correct website, it takes him to a different site that has paid for it.
Malware means malicious software and it is another form of spyware. It is often designed to cause damage to the user’s computer system in the same way a virus does. |
